Mounting your Crystal onto the Cryo Sample Changer
Before starting make usre your are using the
correct type of caps and loops.
Below
we present a step by step procedure to load firstly your sample into the carousel
and secondly the carousel into the sample changer.
- Make sure that the Liquid nitrogen level controller for the Sample Changer is switched on. If not turn it on and allow 25 minutes for the sample changer to fill. The controller in underneath the MAR DTB from the side of the search button A.
- Fill the portable dewar for the sample changer with liquid nitrogen till to cover the sample holder. To do that you will need to do liquid nitrogen handling. Make sure you have been trained to handle liquid nitrogen and you wear all the protective clothing needed.
- In the preparation room transfer you crystals from your vials into the vials mounted onto the carousel. This is a delicate step. Please take your time to practice.
- Transfer the portable dewar for the sample changer from the preparation room to the experimental hutch using the two trolleys provided.
- Remove the plastic cover from the Sample changer.
- Unlock the lifter from its locked position by removing the small metallic hook at the top. This allows you to remove the carousel from the Sample changer (if any in there already) and put the new one in.
- Rotate the carousel clockwise/anticlockwise to make sure its is free to move.
- Put the lifter back on its original position and lock it back on.
- Put the plastic cover back in place. If the plastic cover does not go back into place then the lifter is not into proper position.
- At this point you need to check that the Sample Changer is ready to work with your crystals. You do this from the Marccd GUI
